The Most Common Granny Flat Facades – Part 1

//The Most Common Granny Flat Facades – Part 1

When it comes to getting a granny flat in your place, you have the luxury of choice when it comes to choosing a granny flat facade. There a four very common granny flat facades that are available. To get into depth in all four requires two parts. Part 1 will cover Vinyl Cladding and Weathertex Timber. This being Part 1, here are the two, with all their benefits and limitations.

Vinyl Cladding:

Out of all the facades when it comes to granny flats, vinyl cladding is considered the most-effective option. This is thanks to its two key factors: it’s strong and durable material and it is easy to maintain. At the same time, it is also great at maintaining a comfortable and consistent level of heat and coolness, while also coming in an array of different colours and finishes. When it comes to its limitations, Vinyl Cladding is not made of recycled materials, and is not considered environmentally friendly due to its production. When, and if, it is brought down, the materials are not recycled and reused.

Weathertex Timber:

The environmentally friendly option. Weathertex timber is traditional, in terms of its looks, and contains no glues or resins in its production. It is made with 97% timber and 3% natural wax, and is coated with non-toxic acrylic primer. Having a granny flat made with this material will be considered environmentally friendly.

On the downside, it does require a high level of maintenance over the years – which can result in an increase of costs. It is not the strongest, and is prone to be weak against fire, thanks to its very natural materials.
